In Living Color Book Set
Made to Order at Juniper Custom in Boulder, Colorado
In 1773, Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral made Phillis Wheatley the first African American woman to publish a book. This set places her collected works beside the twentieth-century writers who carried that voice forward: Langston Hughes, Ralph Ellison, Lorraine Hansberry and Alice Walker. The jackets feature an original painting of Wheatley by the Denver artist Detour (Thomas Evans), a portrait at the center of a lineage. It is a set for the reader of American literature, and a centerpiece for any thoughtful library.
