Juniper Custom is the custom products and services division of Juniper Books. Since 2001, Juniper Books has been innovating in the world of books, changing what book sets, book collections, and libraries can look like and how they function in the 21st century.
We recently launched Juniper Custom in order to better serve book lovers, design enthusiasts, and design trade professionals from start to finish on custom projects of all sizes.
We are a team of passionate book & design enthusiasts dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind book collections and libraries tailored to our client's unique tastes and preferences.
We buy books from publishers and book dealers around the world. Our book jackets are meticulously designed and hand-folded one book at a time our Boulder, Colorado studio with great care and attention to detail.
Juniper Books was founded by Thatcher Wine, in 2001. Thatcher invented custom book jackets and patented them in 2016. While we have been curating custom projects since the very beginning of the company, Juniper Custom was officially launched in July 2023.

Custom Book Sets - approximately 10 books or less.
Custom Book Collections - approximately 11 - 100 books
Custom Libraries - over 101 books with no limit.
Please note that some of our product listings have a fixed price and others have a deposit. For the deposit products, marked as "Full Custom" and with a button that indicates "Get Started with a Deposit," the deposit is non-refundable. The deposit pays for the curation and design services required to finalize the cost and lead time for your project.
Yes, at Juniper Custom we can design jackets for as many or as few books as you want! Our jackets are made to fit hardcover editions, but If your favorite book is a paperback, we can collaborate with a local business we know to bind the book to then incorporate the custom-designed jacket.
Custom made book sets, book collections, and custom libraries take time to produce. We aim to follow up on all orders, including deposits for Full Custom projects, received within 2 business. The Full Custom process can take several months depending on the size and complexity of your project. We will communicate frequently throughout the process.
For Customizable Juniper Books sets, Made to Order sets and collections, Books by the Foot, and Publisher Collections, we indicate the lead time on the product page and also do our best to communicate the status of your order on a regular basis. These products are all curated and made to order, so they do take time to produce.
If you are in a rush to receive your order, please let us know and we will see what we can do. On many orders, if it is possible to speed up the process, there will be a rush fee applied that you would be able to review and approve prior to proceeding.

Yes, we love hearing from customers all around the world. Please contact us to discuss your project if you have questions before placing your order. We appreciate your understanding that many projects do require a deposit in order to fully estimate the cost and lead time before proceeding. By paying a deposit through the website, you are not committing to the total project, you will have the opportunity to review and approve the pricing for the full project before proceeding.
Lead times vary depending on what you are ordering. If you need a special book gift as soon as possible, we recommend ordering an in stock non-personalized product from Juniper Books.
The custom products we offer with the quickest lead times include our Customizable Juniper Books sets, our Publisher Collections, and some of our Books by the Foot collections. Made to Order sets and our Book Murals typically take a few weeks to produce. Full Custom projects may take several months depending on the complexity and size of the project.

Over 22 years, we have worked on thousands of special projects and we can definitely bring our experience and expertise in the worlds of books, design, and gifting to our conversations. Absolutely! We love printing art work, photography, designs, logos and other works created by our clients on book murals and book sets. The copyright for the artwork must belong to you or be public domain in order for us to print it. We request high-resolution files in JPEG, PNG, TIFF, PDF, or SVG vector formats with a resolution of at least 300ppi. Please email files to firstname.lastname@example.org
If we know the price for a product or service, we have listed it on the product page. If a product does not have a price, that indicates that we need to do some resarch and design work in order to fully estimate the cost of your project.
For Full Custom projects, we ask that you click on the Get Started with a Deposit button, then we will assign the resources needed to prepare an Estimate for you. The deposit is non-refundable. You will have a chance to decide whether to move forward after you receive the Estimate; paying a deposit online does not obligate you to the full project until you have reviewed and approved the Estimate.
To ensure your books arrive in the same condition you send them, we ask you to pack them securely for their journey.
Here are a few simple instructions:
Wrap Books to Prevent Movement:
- Carefully wrap each book in bubble wrap or an alternative packing material.
- Place a layer of packing material at the bottom of the box to provide cushioning.
- Position the wrapped books snugly inside the box, filling any empty spaces with more packing material to minimize movement. This will prevent any shifting during transit and help safeguard them from any potential damage.
Avoid Overweight Boxes:
- For ease of handling and to prevent strain during transport, we recommend keeping the packed boxes no more than 30-35 pounds.
Scheduling your pick up:
- If you require a pickup service, please let us know your preferred business day and confirm the pickup address. We're here to accommodate your needs and make the process as convenient as possible.
- Shipping will be billed on final invoice for the project.

Yes! We ship all around the world. We have shipped custom book sets, book collections, and libraries to over 65 countries. We are very experienced in the logistics of shipping large quantities of books globally. As we proceed with your project, we can discuss shipping methods, insurance, customs, taxes, and fees as appropriate.
Yes, we ship orders of all sizes worldwide on a daily basis. Book Sets and smaller Book Collections typically ship by FedEx. For larger Book Collections and Libraries, we pack books in boxes, then wrap them on a pallet for shipment by freight. Our default is to work with our freight forwarder, but if you have a logistics provider, we are happy to work with them.
Trade & Books by the Foot
We only acquire books that are perfect for a client's project. Unlike other companies offering books by the foot, we don't start with an inventory of books that couldn't be sold in other ways. The difference in the quality of our books is significant.
We also screen the books we choose for projects to ensure that they do not have objectionable titles or content when placed in a public space. For international orders, we can fine tune the screening process to accommodate any import restrictions in your country.
Our Trade program is open to interior designers, architects, event planners, developers, visual merchandisers, and others in the design trade.
Trade Program members receive a 20% discount on in-stock products on Juniper Books. Trade Program members have loved the fast turnaround and great selection of over 150 beautifully designed books sets for many years.
When working with Juniper Custom, our dedicated team of works closely with Trade Program members on a daily basis for their Full Custom project needs. We also highlight Trade Favorite Book Sets, Book Collections, and Libraries, on our site.
Please note that due to the nature and cost of our custom work, Juniper Custom products and services are priced the same for all customers.

We specialize in making thoughtfully curated and beautifully designed books easy to order in quantity. While we do not have a minimum order, our smallest Publisher Collections are 10 books, and Books by the Foot are ordered in increments of 1 foot.
We avoid shipping duplicate titles (except in Book Murals when approved for value engineering and design purposes, or for projects where the same books are requested for multiple spaces, e.g. hotel rooms) and carefully screen all books before including them in your project.
Custom orders are non-returnable and non-refundable. We work hard to ensure that everything we make to order is created to your satisfaction. If something is not right, we will work with you to make it right.
Shelf measurements are important for our custom work, and sharing as much information as possible (elevations, plans, shop drawings, etc.) will help us make sure that we are producing and delivering the appropriate quantity of books in the proper sizes.
Jackets-Only customers, please watch THIS video. Our jackets-only product need adjusting once they arrive to your home, they are not a one-size-fits-all, but once you watch the video, we are confident you will be happy with your new set!

All purchases made through Juniper Custom are considered final sale due to the customized nature of the products and services involved. Our team works diligently to create unique pieces that meet your requirements, making them ineligible for returns or exchanges.

We strive to ensure that the once your project is installed, it is what you envisioned, and there should be no surprises to you on the curation or design.
