Why has The Giver endured as a classic?
It won the Newbery Medal in 1994 and has been read in classrooms ever since, yet its power lies in how little it explains. What inspired the jacket design?
Color, one of the series' central themes. A black-and-white landscape with a band of rainbow light reflects the colorless world Jonas begins to see beyond.
