A child's first library is the one that shapes a reader for life: the books read aloud before sleep, the ones a small hand reaches for again and again. BabyLit board books from Gibbs Smith introduce the youngest readers to the great works of literature and the inspiring figures of history through bold illustration and simple, playful concepts.

We dress a collection of 10 to 27 BabyLit titles in custom jackets bearing a child's name, favorite colors and meaningful symbols, drawn from the Classic Lit, Little Naturalists and Little Poets series. It is a gift for new parents, a christening or first birthday, and the grandparent who wants to begin a lifetime of reading.

The Process

1. Begin with a deposit. Click "Get Started with a Deposit" and proceed to checkout.
2. We reach out within 2 business days to discuss the titles that matter most to you, the size of your collection and your design preferences.
3. Research and design. A curator researches book availability while a designer creates initial jacket concepts, if desired. This typically takes 1 to 2 weeks.
4. Your proposal. We present an estimate and initial design concepts outlining the full cost and timeline.
5. Approval. If you accept, we send an invoice before acquiring the books and finalizing the design.

Your deposit is deducted in full from the total project estimate.

Full Custom projects vary in cost and lead time depending on scope and design.

FAQs

What ages are BabyLit books suited to?
Infants and toddlers, roughly birth to four, though their wit makes them a pleasure for the grown-ups reading aloud. Sturdy board pages stand up to eager little hands.

Which titles are most requested?
Classic Lit favorites such as Pride and Prejudice, Alice in Wonderland and The Jungle Book, along with Little Naturalists and Little Poets volumes. The most meaningful collections are often built around a parent's own favorite stories.

How is the child's name incorporated?
Our designers weave the name, initials or other personal details into the jacket composition itself, and you approve a rendering before anything goes into production.
