On a bookshelf, color does something singular. A collection united by a considered palette and bold, consistent typography becomes a work of design that anchors a room. We develop each palette with you, whether a single saturated hue across a wall, a graduated spectrum, or a striking pairing of two colors. Our curators build the collection around the authors and subjects you love or, for a purely decorative installation, around size and visual consistency. Interior designers and homeowners composing a room around color will find the books as considered as every other element in it.
The Process
- Begin with a deposit. Click "Get Started with a Deposit" and proceed to checkout.
- We reach out within 2 business days to discuss the scale of your collection, your palette, any authors or subjects you would like included, and your design direction.
- Curation and design. A curator researches availability while a designer develops initial concepts. This typically takes 1 to 2 weeks.
- Your proposal. We present an estimate and initial Design Concept outlining the full scope, cost and timeline.
- Approval. If you accept, we send an invoice before acquiring the books and producing any custom jackets.
Your deposit is deducted in full from the total project estimate.
Full Custom projects vary in cost and lead time depending on scope, title availability and design.
Please note that the deposit is non-refundable, as it covers our labor to research books and prepare design concepts.

How is the palette chosen?
From the room itself. Share a paint chip, a fabric or a photograph, and our designers will propose colors in conversation with your space.
Can the spine typography be customized?
Yes. Bold sans-serif lettering feels contemporary, classical serif type lends literary weight, and a consistent treatment across every spine unites the collection.
How does this differ from color-curated Books by the Foot?
Our color-curated Books by the Foot offer a beautiful, simpler route to a colorful shelf. A Full Custom collection adds complete control over palette, jackets, typography and titles.
