Curated at Juniper Custom in Boulder, Colorado

Red into orange, gold into green, blue into violet. A rainbow bookshelf is pure joy made visible, and this one is filled with stories worth reading.

Our curators have gathered 28 books from some of the most beautifully designed series in publishing, among them Penguin Drop Caps, Puffin, Penguin Classics and Word Cloud Classics, and arranged them by color into a single radiant spectrum. With tales for young readers beside the great classics for adults, it suits a family whose shelves are shared by every generation, and brings a child's bedroom, a sunlit reading nook or a playroom library to life.

FAQs

How is a rainbow bookshelf arranged?
By spine color, in the order of the spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet, with neutral tones placed where they soften the transitions. Our curators chose each edition for the color and design of its original cover, so the gradient flows naturally from one book to the next without a single custom jacket.

Is the collection meant for children or for adults?
For the whole household. Beloved stories for young readers, such as The Secret Garden and The Wizard of Oz, sit beside the great classics for adults, so a rainbow shelf in a shared room offers something to every reader who passes it.

Can a rainbow library be built to fit a particular wall?
Certainly. Through our Full Custom Libraries service, we can curate a color-arranged collection of any size, from a single shelf to a floor-to-ceiling bookcase, with titles chosen around your family's interests.
