Beat Generation Book Set
Made to Order at Juniper Custom in Boulder, Colorado
They wrote as they lived: restlessly, rebelliously and with an urgency that still crackles on the page. The writers of the Beat Generation broke open American literature, and it has never quite closed again.
Our curator has gathered six of the movement's most influential works into a single collection, from Jack Kerouac's road novels to the poetry of Gary Snyder and Lawrence Ferlinghetti, alongside Ken Kesey's unforgettable One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It is a set for the reader who first found freedom in On the Road, the poet who keeps a well-thumbed anthology close at hand, and every lover of counterculture, jazz and the open road.

FAQs
Who were the writers of the Beat Generation?
A circle of American writers who emerged in the late 1940s and 1950s, among them Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Their work rejected convention in favor of spontaneity, spiritual searching and a fierce devotion to personal freedom.
Does this set include On the Road?
Kerouac is at the heart of this collection. As currently curated, the set includes his Road Novels, which gathers On the Road and The Dharma Bums together with his other road novels in a single volume.
Why does Ken Kesey appear beside the Beat poets?
Kesey was the bridge between the Beats of the 1950s and the counterculture of the 1960s. Neal Cassady, the real-life inspiration for Dean Moriarty in On the Road, later drove Kesey's psychedelic bus across America, carrying the restless spirit of the Beats into a new decade. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest shares that same defiance of conformity.
