Curated at Juniper Custom in Boulder, Colorado

We are based in Boulder, in the shadow of the Rockies, and our founder is an avid skier, so mountain libraries hold a special place in our hearts. We curate and design collections that belong to their surroundings, whether a ski-town retreat or a home among the peaks, drawing on books about nature, outdoor sports, local history, art and culture.

For one ski house in Utah, we curated a library that celebrates the owners' passion for the slopes, wrapping the books in custom jackets with a skier across one wall and a snowboarder across the other. In an Aspen home designed by Kerry Joyce, where bookshelves fill many rooms, we assembled a collection of art books reflecting the clients' tastes, and chose books on other subjects for each room so that every space carries its own character. It is a commission for the mountain homeowner who wants a library as memorable as the view.

The Process

1. Begin with a deposit. Click "Get Started with a Deposit" and proceed to checkout.
2. We reach out within 2 business days to discuss the number of books, the subjects and rooms you have in mind, and your design preferences.
3. Research and design. A curator researches book availability while a designer creates initial jacket concepts, if desired. This typically takes 1 to 2 weeks.
4. Your proposal. We present an estimate and initial design concepts outlining the full cost and timeline.
5. Approval. If you accept, we send an invoice before acquiring the books and finalizing the design.

Your deposit is deducted in full from the total project estimate.

Full Custom projects vary in cost and lead time depending on scope and design.

Deposit Policy

Please note that the deposit is non-refundable, as it covers our labor to research books and prepare design concepts.

FAQs

Which subjects suit a mountain library?
Mountaineering and skiing, natural history and wildlife, the history of the American West and the local region, photography, and art books for the great room. We tailor the mix to your home and your interests.

Can the jackets depict a mountain scene?
Yes. A skier, a mountain range or a landscape of your choosing can span an entire wall of spines.

Can you curate for several rooms at once?
Certainly. We often build a distinct collection for each room, so that a den, a guest suite and a bunk room each feel complete.
