Begin Your Project With a Deposit — Juniper Custom

There is no more meaningful gift you can give a child than a room that makes them want to read. Not just a shelf with some books on it — but a library that feels like it was made for them. One that sparks curiosity, invites exploration, and quietly communicates that their imagination is worth taking seriously.

At Juniper Custom, we have spent over 25 years building libraries that matter. A children's library, thoughtfully curated and beautifully designed, may be the most important one we ever help create.

What This Service Offers

Our full custom children's library service combines the expertise of our professional curators with the artistry of our in-house design team to build a collection that is as visually inspiring as it is literarily rich. Whether you are creating a dedicated reading room from scratch, transforming a bedroom corner into a magical haven, or simply adding depth and beauty to an existing space, we collaborate closely with you at every stage to bring your vision to life.

Collections can be curated around a child's age, interests, and reading level — or built to grow with them over time. Books can be presented in their original publisher format, dressed in custom-designed jackets that tie the collection together visually, or assembled without jackets for a clean, organic look. Every decision is yours, and every title is chosen with genuine care and curatorial expertise.

The Process

Begin by clicking "Get Started with a Deposit" and proceeding to checkout. Within 2 business days, our team will reach out to discuss the books you'd like included, the size of your collection, and your design preferences. From there, a dedicated curator researches availability and a designer develops an initial concept — typically within 1–2 weeks. You'll receive a comprehensive proposal and design concept outlining the full scope, cost, and timeline of your project. If you choose to proceed, an invoice for the balance is sent before books are acquired and design is finalized. Your deposit is deducted in full from the total.

Full custom projects vary in cost and lead time depending on scope and title availability.

The deposit is non-refundable, as it covers the labor involved in researching books and preparing design concepts and proposals. Read our full deposit policy here.

FAQs

What age ranges can a custom children's library be built for?
Any age — and that is one of the things that makes this service so special. We have curated collections for nurseries where the books are as much about beauty and bedtime ritual as reading, for early readers discovering chapter books for the first time, and for older children with sophisticated tastes and specific passions. We can also build a collection intentionally designed to grow with a child — starting with picture books and expanding into middle grade and young adult titles as they develop. Tell us about the child, and we'll build something that fits them perfectly right now and for years to come.

Can the jacket design be themed around a child's interests or the room's aesthetic?
Absolutely — and it is one of the most joyful parts of the entire process. We have designed children's library jackets inspired by the colors of a nursery, the themes of a favorite book series, and the specific passions of individual children — from astronomy to fairy tales to the natural world. A cohesive, custom-designed set of jackets can transform a collection of books into something that feels like it belongs to that child and that room in a way that nothing off a shelf ever could. Share your vision, your color palette, or even just a photograph of the space, and our designers will take it from there.

Is a custom children's library a good gift for a new baby, a birthday, or a special occasion?
It is one of the most thoughtful and lasting gifts imaginable — and one that grows in meaning over time. A custom children's library commissioned for a new baby becomes a fixture of their earliest memories. One built for a milestone birthday communicates something profound about how much that child's inner life is valued. We have created children's collections for baby showers, first birthdays, holiday gifts, and the opening of new nurseries and playrooms. If you are commissioning a collection as a gift and would like guidance on where to begin, reach out to our team at clientservices@junipercustom.com — we would be honored to help you build something truly beautiful for the young reader in your life.
