African American Literary Classics
Made to Order at Juniper Custom in Boulder, Colorado
Few voices have shaped American thought as profoundly as these five. Frederick Douglass bore witness to slavery and the long fight for freedom. W.E.B. Du Bois gave the nation new language for race and identity. Zora Neale Hurston brought the life of the South to the page with unforgettable warmth. Richard Wright confronted injustice with searing force, and James Baldwin wrote essays that remain urgent today.
This collection gathers their work in five Library of America volumes, wrapped in leather-look custom jackets with matte gold titles. It was first introduced by our sister company, Juniper Books, in 2016. It is a set for the reader building a library of essential American writing, for the student of history and literature, and a gift of lasting significance.
